Engagement Portraits I Love: Part 1
Engagement portraits are such a fun time. It’s often the first official pre-wedding activity and leads to beautiful photos to display at your wedding, in your home, and on your social feed. What I love most about it is that it’s a chance to hang out with you and get to know you before the wedding day. It’s more relaxed and low-pressure, and if you’ve never done professional portraits before, here’s your big chance to experience it before there’s hundreds of eyes on your on the wedding day. Here are some of my favorite engagement portraits that I’ve made over the last several years and a little bit of background on why I love them. Each one is unique and is catered to the couple and their personalities. Remember, you don’t have to do your engagement photos like anyone else, but who doesn’t love some good inspiration?
I love the romance of a sunset at a flower field, and this halo of sun flare was so lovely. I remember having so much fun with Jasmine and Logan at this session. They were game to try any pose and that fun, adventurous vibe with a couple makes it feel all the more fun to experiment with lighting and posing. I remember shouting out things like “Oh my gosh this is GORGEOUS!” while I was shooting because I just knew we were going to have some big time winners.
Swoooon. I love the World War 1 Memorial for the skyline opportunities, and this session with Tara and Luis was so perfect. I love the pop of color from her shoes contrasting with all the cool greens and blues in the skyline. Also, when your couple knows how to dip, it’s just next level. Don’t worry, if you need guidance on the dip I gotcha covered!
Chelsea and Patrick dancing in the tall grass. I love how fun and playful this feels and I love the church in the background and the sprawling landscape beyond. We went off road in a little side by side vehicle up this hill and got such a nice view of St. George Kansas (near Manhattan). Great times. Notice their simple black attire as well. This adds a bit of elegance to this set of portraits which I thought was really nice. When it comes to your portraits, solids are most often the way to go as they don’t subtract from the landscape or the connection between you.
Goodness gracious I love this image. This was taken at Lucas and Megan’s Clinton Lake engagement session. I loved that they were game to get into the water and splash around and I just think it adds so much romance. The sunset colors along with their warm clothing color palette bring everything together. If you enjoy the water let’s get you prancing around in there, it really does make magic.
